Maximizing the Benefits of Grain and Feed Usage for Your Livestock

Grain and feed from Perkco Supply Inc. play a critical role in maintaining the health and productivity of your livestock. Whether you're raising cattle, poultry, horses, or small ruminants, understanding how to properly use grain and feed ensures optimal nutrition and growth. At Perkco Supply, Inc. in Exeter, ME, we offer a wide selection of high-quality grains and feeds to meet the needs of every farmer.

Understanding the Nutritional Needs of Your Animals

Each type of livestock has unique dietary requirements. Cattle need a balance of protein, fiber, and energy, while poultry require higher protein levels for egg production and growth. Horses benefit from grains that provide sustained energy without causing digestive issues. Consult with our team at Perkco Supply, Inc. to find the right feed formulations for your specific animals.

Choosing the Right Type of Grain

Different grains offer varying nutritional benefits:

  • Corn - High in energy, ideal for fattening cattle and poultry
  • Oats - Easily digestible, great for horses and young animals
  • Barley - Good protein content, suitable for dairy cattle
  • Wheat - High energy but should be mixed with other grains

We carry Poulin Grain products that are scientifically formulated to provide balanced nutrition for all types of livestock.

Proper Storage and Handling

To maintain the quality of your grain and feed:

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
  • Use airtight containers to prevent moisture and pest contamination
  • Rotate stock to ensure freshness
  • Check regularly for signs of mold or spoilage

Feeding Schedules and Portions

Establishing a consistent feeding schedule helps maintain animal health and reduces stress. Portion sizes should be based on the animal's weight, age, and activity level. Overfeeding can lead to obesity and health issues, while underfeeding can result in poor growth and reduced productivity.
